چکیده

Penicillia are some of the most widespread hyphomycetes among microscopic fungi. Their natural habitats are soils of northern latitudes. They are known as producers of various types of biologically active compounds such as ergot alkaloids, diketopiperazines, quinolines, quinazolines and polyketides [1]. Penicillium fungi synthesize clavine ergot alkaloids whose structural specificity is that they share the tetracyclic ergoline nucleus. Clavine alkaloids can be divided into three groups. The first includes 6-N-methylergoline derivatives such as festuclavine, epicostaclavine, fumigaclavines and isofumigaclavines A and B with a completely saturated ring D. Ergolenes having a double bond in position 8,9, such as agroclavine, agroclavine-1, epoxyagroclavine-1 are assigned to the second group. The third group Abstract

Identification of some secondary metabolites produced by four Penicillium species

Fungi produce a wide range of secondary metabolites such as antibiotics, toxins, alkaloids, fatty acids, ketones and alcohols during active cell growth. The present study was aimed to identify secondary metabolites from some Penicillium species, using GC-MS. Many important compounds such as 3-oxoquinuclidine in Penicillium jenseii, formamidine in Penicillium pusillum, orcinol and 1,3,8-p-mentha...

Isolation of biologically active Actinomycetes from untouched soils: a case study from Karaj district, Iran

Actinomycetes are a source of a broad variety of secondary metabolites with diverse biological activities, such as antifungi, antibiotics and antitumorals; many of which have been developed for clinical use. In this study, 34 actinomycetes from untouched soils were isolated from Alborz Province-Iran. Evaluation ofantifungal and anti bacterial activities of these isolates, demonstrated the capab...

Nutritional potential of biomass and metabolites from filamentous fungi

Mushrooms are very appreciated as food in several countries and, besides their fine taste, they have great nutritional value as sources of essential fatty acids, minerals, proteins and biologically active metabolites. By the other hand, nonbasidiomycete filamentous fungi from several genera such as Rhizopus or Penicillium are commonly not associated with human diet. Nevertheless, these and othe...

Identification of biological secondary metabolites in three Penicillium species, P. goditanum, P. moldavicum, and P. corylophilum

Microorganisms are important components of soil. Some soil filamentous fungi such asPenicilium produce many bioactive small molecules, or secondary metabolites, that range frombeneficial bioactive compounds to harmful toxins. In this study, the metabolites of threepenicillium species (P. goditanum, P. moldavicum and P. corylophilum) were extracted byadding ethyl acetate to liquid cultures. The ...
